Destiny Gardner is 2023 Recipient of the Doug Krause Memorial College Planning Scholarship
July 11, 2023The Doug Krause Memorial College Planning Scholarship is enabled by the generous support of the Krause family. It recognizes the contributions and hard work that long time Rotarian Doug Krause did to make this community a better place in which to live. As many of you know, Doug was quietly involved in assisting young people without parental or guardian support navigate our court system. His passion was to give voice to those who could not speak for themselves. This scholarship continues that work by assisting students to gain access to higher education.
This scholarship is for a student who will be the first in their immediate family to attend college. In offering this scholarship, Rotary is trying to remove one more barrier to a student’s access to higher education by helping with the often complicated and confusing process of getting into and financing college.
The $2,000 Doug Krause College Planning Scholarship is awarded during the student’s junior year of high school to assist in the process of selecting and gaining entrance to an appropriate college.
The first half of the award ($1,000) will be used to assist in paying for expenses and fees as incurred during the process of selecting and gaining acceptance to a chosen college. Bennington Rotary has also partnered with Jessica Casalinova, a professional Guidance Counselor from Mount Greylock Regional High school, to provide advice and assistance in planning and completing the application process during the senior year.
