Fourth of July Celebration
August 1, 2020For the seventh year, the Bennington Rotary Club celebrated the Fourth of July with their traditional bell ringing ceremony. Although adjustments were made to respond to Covid-19 guideline, most of the ceremony proceeded as usual. Masks and social distancing were observed. Starting at !:45, Ted Bird introduced the event which included Claire Paquin, daughter of Rotarian, T. R. Paquin and granddaughter of Rotarian Tom Paquin sang the Star Spangled Banner.
Shep Jones led the group in singing God Bless America.
At 2 pm. bells were rung at many of Bennington's churches as well as the ringing of the U.S.S..Bennington ship's bell at the Town Office building by thirteen Rotarians.
The Fourteenth Bell, symbolizing the admission of the State of Vermont into the union, was rung by Claire Paquin and Lynn Sweet, choir director of the Mont Anthony Chamber Singers who received the Bennington Rotary Club's plaque of recognition for their achievements.
