Garlicfest Brochure
May 1, 2019In its twelth year, 2007, the Southern Vermont Garlic and Herb Festival moved from Wilmington to Bennington over the Labor Day weekend. It was an immediate success with fifty vendors and a crowd of 12,000 people. The Chamber of Commerce then purchased the rights to the festival from its founders, the late Steve Wrathaall and Joy Powell.
The festival has continued to grow with over 200 vendors of all things garlic, as well as activities for the children and musical shows.
Many volunteers were needed. Lindy Lynch was the Chair of the Event Committee for over twelve years. She involved all the local community organizations. The Bennington Rotary Club was involved with parking, ticket sales, trash removal, and other activities as needed for which the club received compensation.
The Bennington Lions Club did the advertising brochure. This year, however, the Lions disbanded and the Bennington Rotary Club was given the opportunity to take over doing the brochure as well as the other volunteer activities.
A brochure committee has been formed. Kathy Sollien is the chief financial officer, Mary Rogers is the Chamber coordinator, Mike Day will compile the spreadsheet for advertisers, Steve Dale will work with Ellen Albert on layout. The work on the brochure will be completed before the show and will not interfere with other volunteer activities the club will continue to do at the event.
