Meet Tony Gilmore District Governor

September 6, 2012

Tony Gilmore
Tony Gilmore has been a devoted Rotarian for many years. He has more than 35 years of perfect attendance. He has been president twice, sergeant at arms twice, secretary twice, Assistant Governor and spent three years preparing to become District Governor. After all the preparation the year of being District Governor and visiting all the clubs is among the easiest and most pleasant.

Tony has traveled to Honduras, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. It was on his first trip to Honduras that he became involved with Pure Water for the World. Tony was also a leader of a team that went to the Philippines.

It was while he was on one of these trips that he got the idea from another Rotarian to have a cruise for the District Conference. The conference which is on Memorial Day weekend will be the first cruise the District has taken and the first multi-district conference. Tony invited District 7850 to join them. The cruise will go from Boston to Bermuda and back.

Since each member is paying his or her own way, it was not possible to have the Group Study Exchange members join them so they will be at the Foundation dinners in October. Nashua West is raising. twenty thousand dollars so that the inbound exchange students can go on the cruise

Tony's goals for the district are increased communication among the clubs and increased participation in Club Runner. However, he recognizes that some clubs will have their own web sites. He wants club members to know what is happening in the district. District 7870 is also going to collaborate with District 7850 on a Facebook page.

The district received a Public Relations grant to raise awareness about Rotary. There will be ten slots on public radio every other week for twenty-six weeks. With only enough money for programs in one state and more clubs in New Hampshire, the ads will run there.

Before he was able to devote so much time to Rotary Tony had a commercial printing and photography business. He retired in 2008. However, subsequently he did start a new business, World Digital Photography to help non-profits Tony and his wife Liz, live in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. They have two married daughters and three grandchildren.
