Meet Leslie Addison Of United Counseling Service

March 1, 2016

Leslie was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts which she remembers as a beautiful place in which to grow up. Her dad worked for General Electric. She has five brothers and sisters who live all over the country. She went to the College of Saint Rose in Albany, and earned a degree in social work.

For twenty-seven years she worked at Northeast Career Planning as Directory of Employment Services where she worked with youth and adults with disabilities. Her passion was to be sure that they received equal opportunity for employment.

She married Jim Sullivan and moved to Vermont in 2008. Jim is Executive Director of the Bennington Regional Planning Commission. They live in North Bennington. They have six children. Leslie has four sons and Jim has two daughters. Their youngest will be twenty-one next month. They also have four grandchildren and two dogs.

When the position at UCS became available, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to blend her background with an organization that serves the community. Her position as Director of Human Resources involves recruitment, retention, employee relations and staff development with the 280 employees of UCS. Her mission is to create a culture in which people enjoy their work.

For recreation Leslie and her husband run regularly with their dogs. She has run in six marathons. The highlight was a marathon in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Since Leslie hopes that what she does makes a difference in some way to someone's life, she sees Rotary as a way to give back to the community and to offer support to others. She also likes being with positive people because being positive is contagious. She is interested in the Community Service Committee as a possible way in which to serve. Given her experience and skills, there are many opportunities for her to work as a Rotarian with other Rotarians in providing service to the Bennington community.
