Meet Linda Blakely - Of Connie Caps, Inc

June 1, 2015

Linda Blakely
Linda was born in Everett Washington. Her mother and father were both in the military so she moved all over. She spent time in England, the Philippines and several states. Linda has an older sister and a younger brother. She went to high school in South Carolina.

After graduating from high school, Linda joined the military. She was in the air force for four years as a photographer. She got married young which was probably a mistake but it led her to other things. She joined her husband in Mildenhall, England which is about an hour southwest of London. They did a lot of traveling throughout England while there. She left the air force but stayed in England with her husband for an additional three years.

When she came back to the states, she did a variety of jobs. She also took up knitting which her mother taught her. In 1997, she got divorced and moved to Florida where she met her current husband, Tom. Shortly after that her mother died from cancer. She was devastated by that. Her husband was a great help to her getting through it.

After they gave up their wine business, she volunteered at an organization making caps for cancer patients using the knitting skills her mother taught her. This grew into her business of Connie Caps. Founding it got Linda to look outside the box. She has great success using social media. With Instagram, she got orders from everywhere.

When Linda and her husband first visited Bennington, it struck a chord with them. Linda moved to Bennington in December and has not been discouraged by the weather. She finds people welcoming, unlike in Florida. Her husband will be moving here as soon as he can work it out with his job in Information Technology. Fortunately, he comes up three or four times a month.

Linda loves the fact that Rotary is so community minded and is eager to do whatever she can. Given her various skills, Public Relations seems like a good committee for her.
