District Assembly - 2010
May 7, 2010
The District Assembly was held in Keene New Hampshire on Saturday, April 10. This is the last training session for incoming officers for the 2010-2011 Rotary Year. Attending from Bennington was Paul Roth, President Elect for the 2011-2012 Rotary Year, Sue Katz, incoming Club Secretary and Ted Bird President Elect for 2010-2011. The first training session was PETS (President Elect Training Session) which I attended in mid March. For your information our district, 7870, consists of the 59 clubs in Southern Vermont and Southern New Hampshire.
At both of these meetings we were exposed to various procedures and had give and take sessions on how to help us administer our clubs. We were also given operations manuals to help us more. We had plenary sessions with everyone and some breakout sessions for various officers.
At one of the sessions last Saturday Sue was told all about Club Runner which is Rotary's recommended software to send information to the district. While this is preferred by the District, since we have such an outstanding website and web mistress we feel that to change would be counterproductive. There are few, if any, websites in the District that are even in the same league as the superior one that has been created and maintained by our own Jen Holley.
While the District Assembly was interesting and informative, it didn't hold a candle to PETS. Four hundred thirty incoming Rotary Presidents in one room makes a statement. PETS consists of 8 Districts from throughout New England. That was two days long and I found it stimulating, informative and really quite thrilling. There's really a lot more to Rotary than our little club in Bennington. As time goes on I will get upon my soap box more often and tell you all why I am so proud to be one of 1.2 million members worldwide in 34,000 clubs comprising Rotary International.
