Kathy's Non Cat Story

July 5, 2014

Hello fellow Rotarians. I am writing this little column for our newsletter knowing full well you may be expecting a cat story from me. Well, maybe next time, but today I wanted to write something specific to my Rotary experience.

Apparently I joined this club twenty or so years ago. Boy, how time flies. Of all of you that were in this club when I joined or shortly after, I don't see any that look twenty years older. I'm sure I have stayed the same too, don't you think? As I look around the room at each of you I realize how much I appreciate my being a member of this club. I almost don't like to refer to us as a club, but like to think of us as more of a large group of friends.

Each and every one of you has touched my life in some way - large or small which makes me realize that I have more friends than I thought I could ever have. I also know, without anyone saying, that you are all there in some capacity if I were to ever need anything, even just emotional support and I hope that the feeling is mutual.

When I think of our members that have gone before us and those that are no longer able to attend, I cherish their memories and our interactions within this club. We have all worked side by side at spaghetti dinners, car shows, Mayfest and who could forget Ethan Allen Days - I know I want to!

Our new members, I have come to realize, are people I may never have known if not for this club. I certainly would not know them in the same way that I do now. They are folks that I could run into at the grocery store, post office, where ever and give a genuine 'hello' to. All of you are people that I consider to be my friends and colleagues. Friends that I can sit down and have a lunch with and learn more about, have a laugh and commiserate about the economy and such.

So what am I trying to get at with this little column, well I guess my point is to just say thank you and I promise a cat story my next go round.
