Service Above Self - Don Nolan

April 1, 2014

Don Nolan
Besides serving on the Public Relations Committee where among other things, he is responsible for seeing that our speakers are recorded for broadcast on WBTN, Don is involved in many activities in the community.

He volunteers for the Bennington Free Library Book Express. This means that six to eight times a year, he picks up books at the library and delivers them to day care centers, schools or individual child care homes. One month after he delivers them he picks them up and returns them to the library.

Don also volunteers his time at Sacred Heart, facilitating programs of bible study and other spiritual material that people would like to study and discuss. Don feels strongly about is religion and wishes to keep learning and pass that knowledge on to others, as well to help others as he can.

Most of his time is devoted to Care Net Pregnancy Center. He was on their board for three years in the past and has currently been on the Board for the past two years. He volunteers to do a whole range of activities with them from building shelves to working on the annual banquet by getting underwriters to sponsor the event. He also writes grants to corporations and individuals to support the work of the agency. Not only does Care Net encourage women to have their children, but they also provide programs to help them be good parents

Don has a love for children. He has five of his own and was one of six. This determines some of the organizations and events in which he participates. When he first came to Bennington, he and his wife were involved with a program in which they read to children at Head Start.

Don is impressed with Rotary and all that it does internationally as well as locally. Until he joined, he did not know how extensive and important its work is.
