Catamount Club 25th Anniversary Celebration

December 1, 2013

On November 14, The Catamount Club celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a dinner at the Country Club The event was a pleasant one with members from both clubs sharing memories of the first days of the club and many of the events over the years that followed. Current President, Wes Mook started off the rembances. Others joined in. Jay Zwynenburg spoke as did Rick Havlak.

In an interview later with Rick Havlak, a charter member of the club, he explained some of the reasons that the club was formed. The Bennington Rotary was getting very big and the issue of classifications was one that was getting complicated. At that time Rotary was strict about the number of people in each classification. John Kennedy, a former district Governor, who was to be the new club's first president felt that Bennington was big enough to support two clubs. He also wanted women in the club, no matter what Rotary International decided to do at the time. It was also felt that having two meeting times would make it possible for more people to become Rotarians. For all these reasons, the club was established with positive results in terms of additional projects and fund raising activities for the community.
